Crafting Overhaul
Build 42’s crafting overhaul is the connective tissue of the whole update — the system that ties wilderness, animals, blacksmithing and base-building into one self-sufficiency loop.
What Changed
Crafting is dramatically deeper and broader. There are more recipes, more material chains, and far more that you can produce yourself rather than scavenge. The intended arc of a run shifts from "loot until it runs out" to "build something that does not run out."
Why It Matters For Survival
Old runs ended when supplies dried up. The overhaul makes long-term self-sufficiency a real, reachable goal — crafted food, tools, materials and repairs replace a dependence on finite loot.
Learning The New System
Because the overhaul is so extensive, older guides and old muscle memory will mislead you. Treat crafting as something to relearn in the current build — check recipes, stations and material requirements in-game rather than assuming.
